DAIRY ROAD

I made my left turn from the main traffic lane heading north, and began to back into the end parking spot. Suddenly, there was a crash! A white pickup truck that came out of nowhere rammed me. I asked the driver where he came from. He indicated he was past the entrance to the parking stalls on the main traffic lane heading south. I didn't see him when I made my turn.

I don't know if he was stopped in the main traffic lane already at that time or was driving on the main traffic lane in the shopping mall circumference road? I guess he didn't expect me to back in. He said, "you turned so quickly and zipped toward the spot" that apparently he had his eye on and perhaps was trying to beat me into (if he'd been waiting and not wanting to lose the spot). However I was in the parking area, he was not.

Who would think a car would reverse from the main traffic lane to get a spot rather than make a normal turn while forward facing as I did? The police asked me to move my car so he could back into the spot and get out of traffic. I responded with a request the other driver move his truck first as my vehicle was impaled by his. In my opinion, I clearly had the right of way as no moving car was near the parking stall when I made my maneuver.
